pm - 5:30 pm United Maps: better
maps for mobile use cases |
Today's
maps show many gaps in the world around us. Zoom into a city and
you won't experience much of urban detail: you'll find mostly empty
spaces amidst an almost perfect road network. This is because conventional
maps are made for vehicle traffic rather than for mobile people.
We don't drive vans to produce maps.
United Maps licences professional vector map data from many sources
and deploys smart algorithms to ...
- conflate vectorized base maps
- actively collects and validates relevant content from a
vast spectrum of additional content sources
United Maps generates a new generation of maps:
- richly detailled
- intelligently layered
- interlinked and fully routable
United Maps' white-labeled datasets enable intuitive usability for
connected mobile devices, Business Process Optimization, multi-modal
navigation and smarter location based applications – all on
a mobile, human scale.
Better maps give smarter apps!

Europe: Key Issues for Pan-European
Telematics Services |

There
are many views of Europe: as a continent comprised of a plurality
of ethnic groups fused into countries; as a political subset of
the continent, the European Union. With an economically revitalised
Russia, the political and commercial realities of Europe are changing
quickly. Russia is now the single largest car market country
in Europe, having passed Germany three years earlier than had been
predicted. What is an appropriate view of Europe from a telematics
perspective? What are the issues that need to be considered
when developing a pan-European telematics strategy for the next
decade in this new century?
Issues
- Cross border tracking and retrieval of vehicles
- Data privacy regulations – personal records storage
- Communications functionality
- Emergency service delivery
- Insurance coverage

Speech-enabling your
infotainment system: Why? How? And what comes next? |
- Safety
aspects and usability are the main drivers for speech-enabling
automotive infotainment systems. Numerous studies show that manual
control of infotainment systems while driving can have serious
impact on driving safety. But, recent market studies also show
that controlling in-car systems by voice significantly reduces
driver distraction and reaction time and improves driving performance.
- Speech-enabling
the infotainment system is one of the most challenging tasks.
Recognizing spoken song and artist names from huge music databases
with thousands and thousands of titles in multiple languages are
just a few. How are the technical challenges being addressed and
even more importantly what are the usability aspects that need
to be taken into consideration?
- Infotainment
solutions are no longer limited to onboard solutions, but car
drivers more and more want to have access to services available
in the network. The connected car requires a consistent and user
friendly voice user interface, proving seamless access to the
infotainment system, regardless where it resides, in the car,
in the network or on a portable device.
